Dr Lalit Kumar is an internationally recognised expert in RF and microwave engineering with over 35 years of experience. He earned his Ph.D. in Physics from BITS Pilani (1980) and held international fellowships in Germany and the UK. As former Director of MTRDC-DRDO, Bangalore, he pioneered India's indigenous development of critical microwave tubes, including helix TWTs, klystrons, magnetrons, and microwave power modules. He developed the electron optics codes PIERCE (2.5D) and LKOBRA (3D) and has published extensively in top journals, including IEEE Transactions on Electron Devices, where he serves as editor. His awards include the DRDO Agni Award (twice), IETE Ram Lal Wadhwa Award, CEERI Best Project Award, and the prestigious VEDA-S Lifetime Achievement Award-2024. A Fellow of INAE, IETE, and VEDA-S and a Senior Member of IEEE, he continues as an Adjunct Professor at IIT Roorkee, mentoring the next generation of microwave engineers.
